History of IEEE WIECON-ECE

IEEE WIECON-ECE considers that each paper should have at least one female author with the view to encourage the participation of women scholars, professionals, and industry experts.

The first IEEE WIECON-ECE was held in 2015 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. IEEE WIECON-ECE 2015 was organized by IEEE Bangladesh Section and its WIE Affinity Group. The conference received an overwhelming response from 22 countries (390 valid submissions). There were 6 world-class keynote talks, four invited talks, one industrial panel, 15 parallel oral sessions, 2 poster sessions, two special sessions, three tutorials, one workshop, one WIE meeting, and a pre-conference student competition. Presidents of two IEEE Societies, the President-Elect of one IEEE Society, the Chair of IEEE WIE, the IEEE R10 Director, IEEE R8 Director-Elect, two coordinators of IEEE R10, different section chairs of R10, 6 IEEE Fellows, and around 90 foreign delegates were present in the conference. IEEE president-elect 2016, R10 director-elect 2016 and many other regional and global distinguished IEEE and WIE leaders sent their messages.

IEEE WIECON-ECE 2016 was jointly organized by the IEEE Pune section and IEEE Bangladesh Section and their respective WIE Affinity Groups. It was supported as a special event of global WIE and R10 WIE also rendered its support. The conference received 225 papers from 10 countries in 8 tracks. There were 7 world-class keynote talks (2 IEEE Fellows), 4 invited talks, 4 tutorials, 8 technical tracks, 1 humanitarian technology track, 1 industrial track by CISCO, 1 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Session, and 1 Humanitarian Project Competition (40 projects received).  IEEE WIE Chair 2017, IEEE WIE Chair 2011-12, and founding Chair, IEEE SIGHT was present. IEEE President 2016, IEEE President 2017, IEEE PES President-Elect 2017, IEEE WIE Chair 2016, IEEE R10 Director 2016, and many other regional and global distinguished IEEE and WIE leaders sent their messages. The conference was a mega-successful event for the second time. All presented papers of IEEE WIECON-ECE 2015 and 2016 are now available in IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

The 3rd IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2017) was organized on 18-19 December at the Women Institute of Technology, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. It brought together individuals conducting research and professional activities in the area of ECE to share and present their latest innovations and findings. The IEEE WIECON-ECE 2017 was jointly organized by IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section and IEEE Bangladesh Section and their respective WIE Affinity Groups. IEEE R10 WIE also rendered its support for this conference.

The 4th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2018) was held on 14-16 December 2018 in Pattaya, Chonburi, Thailand. It was jointly organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Kasetsart University, Thailand, IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE Thailand Section and their respective Women In Engineering Affinity Groups (WIE AGs).

The 5th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2019)  was held on 15-16 November 2019 in Bangalore, India. It was jointly organized by IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE Bangalore Section and their respective Women In Engineering Affinity Groups (WIE AGs).

The 6th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2020) was held on 26-27 December 2020 in Virtual Mode with a joint collaboration between IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE Bhubaneswar Subsection and their respective Women in Engineering Affinity Groups. 7 th IEEE WIECON-ECE is the first of its kind collocated conference where Four other technical society-specific distinct conferences are held together. The other conferences collocated with WIECON – ECE 2021 are BECITHCON 2021, SPICSCON 2021, PEEIACON 2021, and RAAICON 2021 with respect to their respective domain. 7th IEEE WIECON – ECE 2021 is organized in joint collaboration between IEEE Bangladesh Section and their IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Groups from 4th – 5th December 2021. This conference is conducted in the virtual mode where authors from eight different countries participated. The pandemic-led research community has a tremendous opportunity to share their ideas through this conference.

IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Madhya Pradesh Section in collaboration with their WIE Affinity Group jointly organized the 8th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2022 (IEEE WIECON-ECE 2022). at International Institute of Information Technology, Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR), INDIA. The conference was hosted on the 30th & 31st of December 2022.

EEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Kerala Section in collaboration with their WIE Affinity Group jointly organized the 9th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2023 (IEEE WIECON-ECE 2023). at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, INDIA. The conference was hosted on the 25th & 26th of November 2023.
